Find a Supervisor

When looking for a supervisor it is best to find a practitioner who is trained and experienced in supervision.

The Anglican Church Southern Queensland currently requires supervisors to be a member of one of the ‘approved professional supervision bodies’ listed below. Membership of these bodies provides the supervisee with some assurance of supervisor training, professionalism and accountability*.

It’s recommended that you start your search via the PACFA and AAOS lists. If you would prefer a supervisor who specialises in pastoral supervision, it’s recommended that you start your search via the supervisor directories**.

The Anglican Church Southern Queensland will continue to seek out additional professional supervision bodies to provide clergy and lay ministers with greater choice and flexibility in selecting a supervisor.

* Membership of these bodies does not guarantee a supervisor’s efficacy. Supervisees are encouraged to investigate for themselves a supervisor’s suitability and fit for them.

** Supervisees are responsible for confirming that their supervisor is a member of one of the ‘approved professional supervision bodies’ listed on this page.

Questions to ask potential supervisors:

  • What are your qualifications and experience with supervision?

  • What is your approach to supervision?

  • Have you supervised ministers of religion before?

  • What is your attitude towards people of faith and how does this influence your supervision?

  • What is your fee per session?

A good supervisor will be able to:

  • Listen well and be truly present with the supervisee.

  • Show warmth and empathy.

  • Be non-judgemental and non-critical.

  • Have an understanding of and respect for the vocation and ministry of the supervisee.

  • Be willing to learn about the supervisee’s ministry context.

Promotional opportunity for supervisors

Professional supervisors are invited to join the QCT Clergy Professional Supervision LinkedIn Group to promote their pastoral supervision services to clergy across the denominations in Queensland. This group page is administered by Queensland Churches Together for the purpose of housing a list of supervisors with experience in pastoral supervision for clergy to access in their search for a supervisor.
